Law no. 2024-1039 of 19 November 2024, known as the "Le Meur law", strengthens the tools available to French municipalities for regulating short-term rentals. It affects property registration, municipal inspection powers and the tax treatment of the activity.

The key point — how this applies varies widely between municipalities, and several measures are rolling out through successive decrees. Always check the rules for your town with the town hall or on service-public.fr: it sets registration, quotas and maximum durations.

What a well-kept guest file gives you

Are the rules the same everywhere in France?
No, and that is the main trap. Each municipality sets its own registration conditions, any quotas, and maximum rental durations. Check with your town hall before listing a property.
Do I have to keep my guests' ID documents?
You must be able to substantiate the information on the individual form, but the GDPR requires that documents are not kept longer than necessary. CheckInn deletes them automatically at the end of the period you define.
